We decided to go to the nearby local market, but it seemed more like a flower market, with a select few of food/vegetable vendors. We decided to pick up some things for breakfast at the market. Adam got some salmon gravlax and had his breakfast there, consisting of a cup of coffee, 2 small sausages, an egg, buttered toast and some roasted potatoes.
We found this cute shop that sold pastries, macarons and chocolate. I got their raspberry croissant and it was pretty good, although I wanted to taste more of the raspberry. We picked out 8 macarons to bring on our trip to the Montmorency Falls.
It was a beautiful, sunny day and neither one of us have seen the falls. Unfortunately, we had to pay a fee to enter into the park. It was $12… which we don’t think was really worth it. The trail getting to the park was actually visually more appealing to be honest. We spotted these tiny, beautiful blue butterflies. I’m not really a fan of butterflies, because I find them extremely creepy up close, but they are pretty from a distance.
The falls were nice, but they weren’t amazing. Although we did get a nice rainbow coming through at the bottom of the falls, when we arrived. People were also rock climbing next to the falls! They also had a zip line in front of the falls.
After viewing the falls, we decided to have a mini macaron picnic by the park above the falls. They had some beautiful trees in the area, so we sat under a couple of them. We decided to just try 2 of the macarons though – the orange and red one 🙂
We decided to go to the island, in preparation for entering our cottage for the night. The island was pretty quiet, but there were some shops and restaurants. We ended up getting some pretty good chocolate on the island as well. We drove past these cute cows! and made some stops whenever we saw something we were interested in seeing.
We saw a bunch of dandelion flying around the city, the day before… it was literally snowing dandelion 🙂 which was kind of cute.
We stopped by the cottage to drop off our stuff and decided to drive all the way around the island. We ended up at Cassis Monna et Filles, which was basically a black currant restaurant, shop and museum in one. They had some very interesting products, like cassis ketchup, and cassis with mustard… cassis wine… cassis balsamic vinaigrette, and much more. Apparently in the 18th century, it was known to cure almost anything, but I’m sure that is not quite the case now.
We had some trouble deciding on a restaurant for dinner, but we ended up going to Le Fin Gourmet. It was situated outside of the major attractions, along a hidden side street, and the food there was pretty amazing. They use local ingredients and there was a great attention to detail, when presenting the food onto the plate.
Adam ordered this amazing mushroom appetizer and a fish main course, I believe? I ordered the asparagus soup and it was extremely fresh and delicious. The leeks tasted amazing… so did the radish. There were small chunks of cheese at the bottom of the soup, which made the soup even more interesting and delicious.
I have to admit… asparagus is definitely in season here… and I do not plan on eating anymore back home. I tried a little bit of everything on Adams plate and it was amazing. I actually liked his dish more 😀 The portion sizes were fairly good and we were pretty full. We did not really have room for dessert.
We drove back to the island, just in time to see the beautiful sunset. Adam had bought some local apples earlier during our drive around the island, so we decided to try one. The apple was definitely one of the best ones Adam has ever had 🙂 It was pretty perfect.
We caught a glimpse of the crescent moon and it was just so beautiful! I had to take a photo. I also had the amazing idea of us waking up at 4:45am to see the sunrise 😀 So stay tuned for the next post 🙂
